Data Availability, Information Quality, Accountability...

What information and high-value data should we provide to make our agency more accountable, improve public knowledge of our work, and create economic opportunity? How can we make information and data available in a timely and accessible manner?

It would appear not much has changed in the Government

It appears to me after reading so many posts this forum, that it is not having much if any effect on the self serving bureaucrats of dealing with the US Government. The bottom line is the more complicated bureaucratic procedures, the more assure of a continued job, employment and rise in the ranks of bureaucrats and less service to the people they are supposed to serve, citizens and would be citizens.

221G Admin Processing Woes :-( . Process needs a OVERHAUL

I have gone through the harrowing experience while going to re validate my H1B visa around Mid August . All of my documentations were perfect. Although when I went to the counter the officer was ready with the pink slip right at the start of my interview and after scrutinizing my documents gave me 221g and asked me to visit the other counter where i was asked more questions on my past experience and whether I travelled ...more »

Employer-Employee relationship

A lot of visa applications for stamping outside United States are being left in pending (Additional Administrative Processing) including mine or being denied. The primary reason for this is from my view the cases are undergoing verification for employer-employee relationships described in USCIS memorandum in 2009. However all these petitions are approved after 2009 or even in 2011, and inspite of that the Consulates are ...more »

Expedited Removal for Canadians

Canada and the US have recently tightned the border and therefore, implementing new rules that citizens of both countries are not aware of. I've been travelling back and forth (being a mere 30 minues from the US border) for my whole life. I then decided to do school in the States and unknowingly overstayed my visa by 5 months. I went home to Canada and came back through the border and wasn't let in. The officer thought ...more »

Visa Stamp option should be available in USA

To avoid lots of confustion and to full fill one commitment without fail Visa stamp option should be available in USA. I am sharing my personal feeling online now with lots of trust on DHS I also stuck in my home country after admin process and now visa denial after 6 months. I lived in states for more than 3 years and was working for same company. I have my apartment, household items, car and what not. I was paying ...more »

Status of Regulations

Why doesn't the Department of Homeland Security emulate the DOT Open Government site and provide a status of pending regulations, including regulations that have been required by Law, but have yet to be acted upon?

pending I-130 for more than a year with VSC

I am an American citizen. I am desperate to bring my wife home to me. The bureaucratic struggle that we are facing is trying to say the least. Our story begins way back in early December 2008. After spending days filling out paperwork we began waiting. Of course the daily phone calls regarding our case brought no reply. I was actually told by a USCIS representative to wait for SIX MONTHS! After much pointless negotiation ...more »

Need a better system to search data - for more general audience.

From recent data posted to data.gov, it seems hard to really get any useful information. How will DHS plan to create a better system for citizens to search data, and then provide feedback? Is there a better website to use to get data?

Internal transparency

One problem with trying to share information to the public is that lower level employees may not be actually interfacing with the big picture. Many are given directives that are disconnected with the true day-to-day activites that are taking place in the fields. I was recently asked on an interview what were the core values of my agency. I was familiar with the core value retoric however, I was out of the loop as far ...more »

221g Administrative processing

Also with 221g Administrative processing, there should be a deadline on when it would be completed. I have read a lot of forums that some people have been waiting for years to get a response. Others are still waiting. During this long waiting period, the petitioner and beneficiary go thru pain and suffering, and the frustration that the US government is not doing enough for them. It is also frustrating to call USCIS ...more »

221g Administrative processing

For all the documents return back to NVC, I think they should have a tracking system setup so we can see if it’s being process or not. Besides that, I think that any return case should be review as they come in and not be buried in a pile of paperwork that will never see any day light.

Determine resources required to execute open government plan

The open government plan should include how it will be implemented. And by "how", I mean what resources - PEOPLE - are required to execute the plan. As DHS Components work to develop their budgets and resource allocation plans, those that will be significantly impacted by this open government plan should determine if they have enough, AND the right, people to execute it. And if they don't have adequate resources and ...more »
