221g Administrative processing

Also with 221g Administrative processing, there should be a deadline on when it would be completed. I have read a lot of forums that some people have been waiting for years to get a response. Others are still waiting. During this long waiting period, the petitioner and beneficiary go thru pain and suffering, and the frustration that the US government is not doing enough for them. It is also frustrating to call USCIS ...more »

Information Sharing

The sharing of timely information important to critical infrastructure by federal agencies is a fallacy. We're told time and again that various security clearances are needed before information can be shared. As an InfraGard member, I'm asked to report suspicious or unusual activity; a one-way street. My suggestion is simple. Make obtaining various security clearances less onerous to obtain and direct those agencies ...more »

Preparation is Not a Dirty Word

DHS needs to put out comprehensive instructions for preparing for different disasters. Natural and man-made disasters occur someplace daily but those who would prepare are characterized as crazy people. The job of helping after any sort of disaster is improved if victim's are not in a state of total devestation. The only way that can be avoided is to prepare in advance. We Americans are not used to having to prepare, ...more »

DHS should live webcast all meetings

The Department of Homeland Security should live webcast all meetings for proposed rule making and regulations where the public comment should take place. They should make these meetings available for on demand viewing and have the ability to have that content be indexed for video search. By doing this the public and stakeholders will be able to see the inner workings of the rule making process and make the content and ...more »

Increased collaboration and problem solving

Many organizations have improved their operations a great deal by encouraging their employees to contribute improvement ideas. If it is made easy, fast and the ideas get implemented the majority of employees will have ideas to contribute. The DHS has a trained, experienced workforce, let's give them a way to contribute their ideas for improvement. Let's set an expectation that all DHS personnel will watch for opportunities ...more »

DHS innovation

DHS needs to improve its hiring methods. It seems that the department is missing opportunities to recruit and hire qualified candidates. There are many individuals who have an education in national security and could bring new ideas to agency yet these people are excluded from consideration based entirely on how they answer a questionaire during the application process on USAJobs.com. The entire application process is ...more »

Run more public dialogues like the Homeland Security Dialogue

DHS should run more public dialogues like the one they did for the Quadrennial Homeland Security Review. This dialogue (http://www.homelandsecuritydialogue.org/) was open to the public, easy to use, and engaged thousands of people in shaping policy that impacts us all.

SPP

I am not comfortable with the outsourcing of Security for profit. I believe security is "inherently governmental work". Three years ago TSA was promoting the SPP program to the state of Montana. Now the Airports in our state are trying to outsource their Security in hopes of profit. This is wrong.

Fed Fatigue

I currently have clients who have to deal with up to five separate federally regulated or supervised risk management programs. These include MTSA, CFATS, NERC CIP, EPA Programs and TSA Pipeline Security (Not to mention DOT Security for their vehicles). All have different risk management practices to include different threat assessment methodologies (if any) methods for measuring consequence and techniques for identifying ...more »
