Keep the topic visible

I am an emergency manager and a member of the Central Massachusetts Homeland Security Advisory Council so the self-improvement concept that lies behind these sessions is of critical importance. It is extremely frustrating to see so few posts being anywhere near on the current topic of how we can better involve NGOs, non-federal, and citizen groups in the defense of our homeland. When I look back at the web-set I notice ...more »

Make my log-in work across all agency dialogue sites

It appears that I have to create a new account for each agency's dialogue. Since there are 20-something dialogues, it would be good to create one sign-on that would work across all these sites.

There's also the ability to use Google and other single sign-on methods, but many users may prefer to create an account that is less identifying.

Off Topic?

I don't have a problem with removing "off-topic" posts and putting them in their own forum, but why shut down comments and voting on these posts? First of all, I don't think everyone agrees with the administrators' judgments of on-topic or off-topic posts and secondly, even if ideas start as slightly off-topic, they can lead to meaningful and helpful debate that relates to the topic at hand. Why shut down this ...more »

User Response to Comments is insufficient.

The voting on comments should account for more detailed feedback. Agree and Disagree is not specific enough for the users. For example, what if the comment is unintelligible, or needs clarification? Thumbs up and Down doesn't explain our reaction well enough. Good ideas can be overlooked too easily within a popularity contest. I'm thinking choices along these lines: (Strongly Agree, Somewhat Agree, Don't Understand, Off ...more »

The need for timestamps and periodic reports of impact.

If all content on the site was timestamped (at least by date, but preferably by hour) users could make judgements about the currency of the content and the flow of interaction.

If the moderator- or users- were to provide claims or better yet evidence about ideas being used in some way, it might incent people with real interest to really participate.

Popular Suggestions..what happens next?

Tell us what happens if and when a suggestion becomes popular?

Actually contact the poster with feedback if the suggestion made is going to be presented to an office that is going to move forward with a new goal after reading that person's suggestion.

Keeping posters informed is important for this website to remain popular.

Allow people to select handles or aliases

First, this is a great site!

To protect people's privacy and promote candid dialogue, please allow people to select a display name. Many email addresses are the full first and last name of a person. DHS employees and contractors could then feel free to contribute.

Suggest allowing people to "Preview" how their post (including their display name) will be displayed, before posting.

No one knows about this site

No one knows about this website. Just look at the dates for the other postings. If DHS were serious about public participation and collaboration they would promote this site at least every quarter. I have been a FEMA DAE for almost 18 months and only discovered this website by accident. And DAEs have no opportunity to share ideas or concerns. Since their ability to be deployed depends entirely on their cadre manager, ...more »

Nobody knows about this site

No one knows about this site. If DHS is encouraging participation and collaboration with the stakeholders and the public why don't they publicize this site and cite what actions have been taken in response to suggestions?

I have been a FEMA DAE for 18 months and only stumbled upon this website by accident.

PLEASE REMOVE ' Off Topic' ideas from the open ideas

I think I like the idea of 'suggestion'type ideas to be moved to 'off-topic'

BUT I would like to see that those off-topic ideas be listed only under that "Off-Topic" category and NOT under the ideas that are currently being discussed.

So if possible see that only ideas relevant to the participation are shown / visible to users or contributors to this program

Select data

What is the easiest method of accessing data via search? Everything seems to be in a download file rather than something in the cloud? Where’s the tools to really turn this data into real information? Can you include some way of looking at data, allowing feedback and collecting/displaying that all together?

long delay on I-130

I am an American citizen. I am desperate to bring my wife home to me. The bureaucratic struggle that we are facing is trying to say the least. Our story begins way back in early December 2008. After spending days filling out paperwork we began waiting. Of course the daily phone calls regarding our case brought no reply. I was actually told by a USCIS representative to wait for SIX MONTHS! After much pointless negotiation ...more »
