Working Together: Governments, Businesses, Non-Profits...

How should we collaborate with individuals, businesses, non-profits, other agencies, or state/local governments? What kinds of prizes/contests should we consider to attract others in working with us? What top problems should we tackle together?

Joint Defense Support for Civil Authorities

About this time last year the Army and The National Guard Bureau (Joint), brought forth a test that was intended to exercise the interaction between civil authorities between the local, national and defense department levels. This was a one-year program funded by the office of the Secretary of Defense. Incredibly, during the one-year test, the National Guard Bureau was not included in the execution of the program even... more »

Public/Private Industry Alliance

I believe that the DHS should maintain a List of Associations from a cross-section of industry.

The industry associations on the List will have voluntarily chosen to be listed and the List made available to Congressional members at all times.

The Listing is a method of contingency planning regarding a sudden and deep global financial downturn.

Members of Congress will be able to enhance their view of the economic... more »

Threat Level/Government sharing with the public

I work at an airport and am frequently being asked what does the 'threat level color mean'? The various colors used are a good idea but I feel that the signs with the 'colors' posted need to verbalize what danger it represents.
"RED-EXTREMELY HIGH THREAT LEVEL "ORANGE-HIGH THREAT LEVEL", ETC. In addition to that, I feel that the governemnt should work harder (and more quickly) in ALERTING THE PUBLIC as to "WHY" the threat... more »

Participation Through Collaboration of Non-Governmental Agencies

Participation through non-Governmental agencies in all ramifications is one big factor driving this great Country. It is my considered opinion that greater participation and cooperation of private agencies with Government coordination will further enhanced strategic counter terrorism in our society.

Sharing Resources and Infrastructure

Have you considered the resources available through the US Postal Service? As they downsize from 800,000+ employees, their systems may be available for processing payroll and other data. USPS has a huge database, from which DHS is probably already retrieving information, but it could also be a resource for processing DHS employees. The USPS owns its own phone line, it has airport hubs that are going mostly unused because... more »

Other OpenGov Ideas & Information Resources

Rather than post each of my "OpenGov" Ideas at 27 different websites, I have posted them at the GSA's website (since they are in the forefront of the OpenGov initiative). So, by this notice, the members of the OpenGov Team for this agency have been informed of those ideas. (At least, now, you can't say you were unaware of them.)

pending I-130 for over a year with VSC

I am an American citizen. I am desperate to bring my wife home to me. The bureaucratic struggle that we are facing is trying to say the least. Our story begins way back in early December 2008. After spending days filling out paperwork we began waiting. Of course the daily phone calls regarding our case brought no reply.
I was actually told by a USCIS representative to wait for SIX MONTHS! After much pointless negotiation... more »

Underwater oil plume removal system

The dispersed oil that remaines underwater in the gulf can be removed with olyophobic bubbles injected deep underwater to cling to the oil and floate the oil to the surface where it can be easily vacuumed into containers for recylcling into usable fuel. The vacuuming breakes the bubbles so only the oil is recovered. Other modifications to the solution can enhance the natural degradation of thr remaining oil and enhance... more »

Use hierarchical web-bsed collaboration tool: Samariteam

Hello!

Perpetua Technologies has a low-cost tool called Samariteam that a number of CERT and VIPS sites are using. This system is designed specifically for Citizen Corps programs and works really well. It's designed from the ground up to be hierarchical and reduce or eliminate the burden on volunteer leadership to keep track of contact and location information.

You can learn more about Samariteam at www.samariteam.com... more »

No more private/for-profit prisons to incarcerate immigrants

Ms. Napolitano, we have you on record several times saying immigrants would no longer be incarcerated just for coming here, yet you are working with Corplan Corrections for a new facility in Benson, AZ, and you are still allowing the infamous Tent City in Raymondville and the other prison at Port Isabel, both in Texas. Why? Please explain how this can possibly be change we can all believe in?
