Transparency and Broader Collaboration

Although i posted this under Working Together ... it also relates to transparency in how DHS dollars are spent across the nation. Not just grant dollars, but contracts, MOUs, cost reimbursements and in-kind resource exchanges. DHS should identify all its MOU's, contracts, cost reimbursements, in-kind resource exchanges and grants that do not compromise national security so that American citizens in all sectors can ...more »

221g Administrative processing

For all the documents return back to NVC, I think they should have a tracking system setup so we can see if it’s being process or not. Besides that, I think that any return case should be review as they come in and not be buried in a pile of paperwork that will never see any day light.

TSA and privitazation

Dear Madam Napalitano; I would like someone to put an end to this SPP program. At GPI in Montana and three other airports have filed to go private. This affects over 100 TSA employees. The TSA employees have been wating for a decision now for over one YEAR. We have already lost people with many years of experience because of this. The possibility of loosing our Fedrqal jobs creates much added stress. It is true that ...more »

DON"T OUTSOURCE HOMELAND SECURITY

To whom it may concern, I am posting this idea in response to a disturbing issue that is happening in Montana. The airport where I work,(GPI),as well other Montana airports, have applied to return to a private contract screening force. Having worked for a private contractor prior to GPI federalization, I feel this is a step backwards in the evolution of Homeland Security. The de-federalization of Homeland Security ...more »

Provide Top 3 Strategic Goal Metrics for all DHS Components

Provide a one stop shopping information portal to the public that lists data and metrics related to the Top 3 Strategic Goals for each and every DHS Component. Quarterly would be reasonable I suppose. If a component's goal was 10 annually, and 1st qrtr was 3, second qrtr was still 3, that component would not be pleased to post that performance. That's accountability. The goals should be of public interest. Sharing meaningless ...more »

Immigration -National Visa Center

Information from the phone contact system is not always up-to-date about cases. Need to improve it to provide the actual/current status of cases. Applications take a long time at the USCIS Office, but there is a tool where one can check the status of a case online. We need to have a similar online tool to check status of cases that are at the NVC. It should give a general ideas on where in the process a case is.

Glacier Park International Airport, Kalispell, MT

To:Director Napolitano. With regard to the proposed privatization of the above I wish to register my very strong objections to this SPP program. I am a traveler through the airport and I have also worked there and so I do know at first hand the general situation. The Airport Director (Cindi Martin) states that her reason for privatization is due to the fact that there were delays in processing passengers during ...more »

Keep the topic visible

I am an emergency manager and a member of the Central Massachusetts Homeland Security Advisory Council so the self-improvement concept that lies behind these sessions is of critical importance. It is extremely frustrating to see so few posts being anywhere near on the current topic of how we can better involve NGOs, non-federal, and citizen groups in the defense of our homeland. When I look back at the web-set I notice ...more »

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION: REACHING MORE PEOPLE

After years of disaster preparedness education, only about 50% of the population has indicated they have engaged in some kind of preparedness activity. More must be done to reach and motivate people. One method, not currently in widespread use, is to involve property management organizations in the preparedness process. Property managers represent an administrative connection to buildings or communities and their ...more »

Implement IdeaFactory for DHS Employees

I know that the DHS Secretary has announced that we would have IdeaFactory up and running by 1/11/10, but it has never been rolled out. If there are technical issues or labor issues with certain components, roll it out to the rest. We are anxiously awaiting our opportunity to submit ideas to make DHS a better place to work. If you are able to get this system up and running, why can't we get IdeaFactory rolled out?

Public School Curriculum Situational Awareness & Preparedness

Has anyone ever considered attempting to integrate general situational awareness strategies and personal preparedness as part of the school curriculum from grade school on through high school? Kids love this stuff, but it is not taught in school unless it is about drugs, alcohol, sex, and don't talk to strangers. Very few if any schools work to create situational awareness and personal preparedness in students. You ...more »

Put all unclassified reports to Congress on DHS.gov

The Department sends hundreds if not thousands of reports to Congress every year, most of which are unclassified, but very few of these are available in the public domain. DHS should create a public repository of such reports on its website.
