Instead of each component having their own awards ceremony, have one, virtual awards ceremony for all DHS and post stories of each inspiring award winner on the web. The public should hear about Coast Guardians who rescue those in need of assistance, Border Patrol agents who save illegal immigrants from drowning or dying of thirst, and other everyday heros who work for DHS. Every year, thousands of DHS employees resign, retire, or transfer to other agencies, taking their knowledge and experience with them. DHS should establish a process for continuing to engage our alumni in discussions and special projects. Every year, the Partnership for Public Service hosts a Public Service Recognition Week on the National Mall to showcase Federal employees. CBP and CIS both participate regularly in this event. DHS should host a "One DHS" presentation to showcase our great mission and dedicated employees this year. It would instill pride in all our employees.
Let employees know about this new website. They are also stakeholders and should be able to voice their opinions as well. They also have a vested interest in what the public has to say about their agency, its mission, and its people. Let's be transparent with our own employees.
I know that the DHS Secretary has announced that we would have IdeaFactory up and running by 1/11/10, but it has never been rolled out. If there are technical issues or labor issues with certain components, roll it out to the rest. We are anxiously awaiting our opportunity to submit ideas to make DHS a better place to work. If you are able to get this system up and running, why can't we get IdeaFactory rolled out?
